Jewellery and Other Boxes by Gene Treanor

These boxes are not in stock but are shown as examples of commissioned work.  Contact us for details.

Go to:  Page 1.  Page 2.  Page 3.  Page 4.

These four images provide close-up detail to show the exceptional quality and craftsmanship evident in all of Gene's boxes.

Jewelry Box

This form of inlay is known as a "compound Inlay" and consists of several layers of timber sandwiched together to provide decorative detail. In this case Satinwood, Ebony and Purpleheart timbers have been used.

This image also shows Gene's typical chamfering treatment to the edges and corners and the perfect fit and finish of his inlays.

Jewelry Box

This image shows the use of triangular timber strips above and below the hinges to act as an unobtrusive stay holding the lid open at 90 degrees.  This system obviates the need for stays to be fitted inside the box.  This is a recent feature and some of the images shown are of boxes that used the brass stay mounted inside the box.

Jewelry Box

This image shows the use of decorative corner splines which greatly enhance the strength of the joint by increasing significantly the number of timber faces being glued.

Jewelry Box

Pictured here is a close-up of the brass hinges and screws.  Notice how all the screw slots line up neatly and how the hinge and screws have been polished and are free of any marks.  Achieving this involves fitting the hinge first with steel screws and then replacing them with the softer brass screws allowing them to be screwed home without damaging the slot of the screw.

These seemingly simple touches are just a few of the hallmarks of a master craftsman.

Jewelry Box

These first three of Gene's jewellery boxes are all the same basic style but are in different timbers and one features an inlay to the lid.

They measure 285 x 145 x 80 mm.

At left is one constructed in Fiddleback Tasmanian Oak.

They all features two open trays that sit on rails within the box, ie, remove one tray and the other will slide from side to side to access the compartment beneath.

They all feature grey/blue suede lining but can be supplied with different coloured suedes and silks.  Ring holders in the tray or bottom compartment are also options frequently requested and readily accommodated.

And finally, one in Western Australian Jarrah, a beautiful and world renown hardwood that is by far the most popular timber selected.

While featuring a plain top at the request of the client, an inlay of a paler timber such as Maple or Satinwood would add a completely different look to the box.

Document Box

These next three are also different versions of the same box. This time beautiful document boxes of a size to accommodate A4 size papers.

They are also fitted with a business card holder and pen tray on its left side.

Pictured at left is one in Jarrah.

Document Box

This one is in Fiddleback Tasmanian Oak and shows the contrasting inlay to the lid.

The boxes measures 370 mm long x 265 mm wide and are 80 mm high.

Personal Effects Box

This style of box is ideal for men to store watches or cufflinks, or simply to empty the pockets into at the end of the day.

Pictured at left  is a Personal Effects Box in Jarrah.

Below is another in Sheoak with a lid comprising a White Oak top with a Maple Burl panel bordered by Queensland Walnut.
